Stefan Behling, from the architects Foster and Partners, says the building is ‘one of the most environmentally sustainable projects on this scale anywhere in the world.’

Most of the car parking will be underground, leaving room for 6,000 indigenous trees, including apples, cherry, plums, apricots and persimmons.

The building will be powered by renewable energy, sourced from fuel cell plants and rooftop photovoltaic arrays.
